A Day We Will Never Forget, 10 Years Later – September 11, 2001 — Ten years ago today was one of those days that will forever be etched in our memories. No matter where you were, or what you were doing, you can remember exactly what was happening when you heard/saw/felt the events of September 11, 2001.
Moments of silence at ground zero were observed in New York City Sunday on the tenth anniversary of the terror attacks that destroyed the World Trade Center and killed nearly 3,000 people.
President Barack Obama joined former President George W. Bush to mark the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center that killed 2,752 people.
Carrying flags and photographs of loved ones, family members honored the memories of those who died in the Sept. 11 attacks a decade ago as the US marked the solemn occasion with a set of ceremonies both patriotic and deeply personal.

Freedom Tower Will Tower Over NYC’s Skyline
There were numerous proposals for the rebuilding of Ground Zero, including demands to replicate the twin towers themselves. Polish-American architect Daniel Libeskind eventually emerged from the competitive bids with the plans for a spiralling Freedom Tower, 1776 feet (541m) high [recalling the date of American Independence] and “reasserting the pre-eminence of freedom and beauty”.
At the base of the Freedom Tower, there will be a plaza with square sunken memorial reflective pools filling in the foundations of the old towers. The planned adjoining buildings will be arranged around the Freedom Tower so that the sun’s rays would emerge as a “wedge of light” from behind the new skyscrapers each year at the exact time of the attack to illuminate the square.
