This morning, the late-January chill in the air, that damp cold that follows a spell of rain, stirred something quietly inside me. It carried me back through time, to the way my clinical life<\/strong> has unfolded, step by step, in a rhythm I did not notice while I was living it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Nearly twenty-two years ago, I began my present clinic in the HUDA Market of Sector 15, Part 2, Gurgaon. When I say it out loud, it feels unreal. How can twenty-two years pass so quickly<\/strong>? I do not remember the exact date, because it began without any opening ceremony, without ribbon cutting, without applause. It simply started, quietly, the way many real journeys do, with a decision, a key in the door, and the next morning showing up again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When I trace the beginning of my private practice, it takes me back to 1989<\/strong>. Like most young doctors, I did not begin with a ready-made setup or a circle of referrals waiting at the doorstep. After nearly six months of searching for a clinic space, I started my first clinic in January, a residence-cum-clinic. It was simple, and it was uncertain, but it was mine. Looking back now, what surprises me is not how small that beginning was, but how much courage it actually required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Years moved on. In 1996, I shifted to the Vasant Kunj area. In 1998, I migrated to Gurgaon, and once again it was January that marked a new beginning. In January 1999<\/strong>, I started my second residence-cum-clinic. I did not plan it as a pattern, but life has its own repetitions, and sometimes those repetitions carry meaning only when we pause to notice them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then came the most jolting stretch<\/strong>: 2002 to 2004. Those were years of turmoil, in more ways than one. I was leaving a project to which I had given the best time and energy of my life. Along the way, I lost certain opportunities because I lead to \u201cthink big\u201d in the terms of that project, and slowly that thinking began to feel hollow. At the same time, I was pursuing my MD in homeopathy from Jaipur, which meant frequent travel, constant study, and the steady pressure of postgraduate work and thesis writing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And as if that was not enough, I sold my home at a heavy loss, more than twenty percent below what I had spent to build it. I had no job in hand. I was searching for and constructing a new place for the clinic, while also moving back and forth to Jaipur, trying to hold everything together: education, finances, responsibility, and the quiet insistence that I must keep moving forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At that time, my life felt like sitting in a tonga<\/strong>, a horse-drawn carriage, when the horse suddenly gets startled. It takes three steps forward, then comes two steps back, turns one step to the left, then one step to the right, and this goes on until the horse gets tired, or its smart owner brings it under control. Many people must have seen this scene in their childhood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By the end of January 2004, I started this present clinic. Again, it was January<\/strong>. Again, it was not a grand launch, but a grounded beginning. Since then, I have continued at the same place, with the same timings, letting continuity do what noise and publicity often cannot: build trust slowly, case by case, year by year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just yesterday, an old patient called after eight or nine years. He asked, \u201cWhere can I meet you now for consultation?\u201d And I replied, almost instinctively, \u201cSame place, Sector 15, Part 2, same timings.\u201d After the call ended, I felt the weight of that sentence: same place<\/strong>. In today\u2019s restless world, that itself has become a kind of statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And that is why I am reflecting today. My first clinic began in January. My second residence-cum-clinic began in January 1999. This clinic began in late January 2004. I do not claim it as destiny, but I do feel it as a reminder: beginnings do not always arrive with celebration<\/strong>. Sometimes they arrive with cold mornings, uncertain finances, and a quiet promise to yourself that you will not stop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you come from a home where no one is already in the medical field, and if you have limited resources, the early years can be difficult and jolting. There is no shortcut for stability<\/strong>. In my case, it took nearly twenty to thirty years to truly stabilize. In fact, it took more than thirty years. But that is exactly the message I want a young doctor to hear without sugarcoating: the road is long, and it is still worth walking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because persistence changes everything. Consistency changes everything. Resilience changes everything. Not in a week, not in a year, but surely, steadily, magnificently. One day you look back and realize that what felt like slow progress was actually a deep foundation<\/strong>. And when that foundation becomes visible, it is not just success. It is strength that can never be taken away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
