In one of my earlier reflections, \u201cLife Begins with the End<\/a>,\u201d<\/em> I shared what life itself had taught me through years of experience – that when everything else fades, two things alone stand firm: our health<\/em> and the people<\/em> around us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Health is the strength that keeps us upright, and relationships are the warmth that holds us steady. Together, they form the foundation of a meaningful life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

I had written then that if we can care for our bodies with love and nurture our relationships with gratitude, every moment of life can become a celebration of purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That reflection was honest and heartfelt, but life, in its gentle and persistent way, keeps teaching us more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over time, I began to see another truth quietly emerging – a truth that sits beside those two pillars, holding them upright when they begin to weaken. It does not sparkle like success, nor does it sing like affection, but without it, both health and relationships can begin to tremble.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That truth is money<\/em> – the third pillar of life\u2019s balance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At first, even to myself, it felt strange to speak about money in the same breath as health and relationships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Money has always been a delicate subject, surrounded by judgment and discomfort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We praise love, loyalty, and care, but we rarely talk about the quiet presence of money that sustains them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yet the more I watched life unfold – among my patients, my friends, my acquaintances, and even within myself – the more I realized that money, when earned honestly and used wisely, is not about greed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is about continuity<\/em>. It is about dignity<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Health and relationships need support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The medicines that heal, the diet that nourishes, the comfort that allows a patient to rest – all require means. The people who care for us, the attendants who help with our daily routines, the doctors and nurses who devote their time – each one\u2019s effort is made possible only when the means exist to sustain them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Love and compassion are the heart of care, but money is its backbone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Without that third pillar, even the strongest of hearts can weaken under the weight of helplessness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I once heard the story of an old man who lived alone in a grand neighborhood DLF, battling his final illness. His son lived abroad, too busy with his own life to visit. The old man\u2019s world had become quiet, reduced to his room and the soft footsteps of the maid who took care of him. She cooked for him, fed him, cleaned his house, and helped him move when his body refused to cooperate. She was not related to him, yet her presence filled his final days with calmness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One evening, sensing his end near, the old man handed her an envelope – it contained papers of a small house he had bought in her name. \u201cYou have cared for me when no one else did,\u201d he told her. \u201cThis is not a favor. This is fairness.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not long after, he passed away peacefully. His son arrived only for the final rites. The neighbors whispered, some disapproved, some understood. But those who had seen the truth knew – the old man had simply acknowledged the real balance of life. His money had allowed him to express gratitude, to reward care, to leave the world with peace in his heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That story stayed with me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It reminded me that money is not an emotion, but it often becomes the medium through which love, gratitude, and fairness find their expression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When used with conscience, money is not material – it becomes moral.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It can uphold humanity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This realization led me to another thought that I wish to share with my readers: one must keep earning<\/em> as long as the body and mind allow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not to hoard. Not to compete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But to sustain – to sustain one\u2019s health, to sustain those who will care for us, and to sustain our dignity in times when we may no longer be strong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earning is not a crime; it is an act of self-respect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is not a rebellion against destiny, but a partnership with it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even the sacred texts across traditions remind us that work is worship<\/em>, that effort is part of faith itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prayer and perseverance are not opposites – they belong together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

People may call this view practical, some may call it worldly, and a few may even call it selfish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But I have seen what happens when money runs out – when patients cannot buy their medicines, when families struggle to afford good food, when aging parents become dependent on their children\u2019s generosity or mercy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Helplessness is not destiny; it is often the price of unpreparedness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I say this not to glorify money, but to remind that it quietly keeps love alive. It enables care, it supports relationships, it gives freedom to the body and peace to the mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To earn, to save, to prepare – these are not signs of fear but of wisdom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Life\u2019s uncertainties demand readiness, not resignation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you are young, earn and save with purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you are in your middle years, balance your earnings with foresight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And if you are growing older, let your savings give you the confidence to live and to bless others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The richness of life does not lie in how much you possess, but in how peacefully you can rest without anxiety about tomorrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And so, to the two pillars I once wrote about – health and people – I now add the third.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Money.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It may not offer affection or healing by itself, but it makes both possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Together, these three form the complete foundation of a life lived with dignity and peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Health gives you the strength to live.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

People give you the reason to live.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And money gives you the means to live well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Take care of all three.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Work while your hands can move, give while your heart can love, and save while your mind can think clearly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the end, when everything else begins to fade, these three will remain beside you – your body, your people, and your own honest earnings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They will speak for you, protect you, and sustain your peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earn until your hands rest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And let that earning become not your wealth, but your wisdom<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
