National Doctor’s Day is commonly celebrated in healthcare organizations as a day to recognize the contributions of doctors to individual lives and communities.<\/p>\n

The first Doctors Day observance was March 30, 1933 in Winder, Georgia.\u00a0 Eudora Brown Almond, wife of Dr. Charles B. Almond, decided to set aside a day to honor physicians. This first observance included the mailing greeting cards and placing flowers on graves of deceased doctors.<\/p>\n

Doctor’s Day Flower:<\/strong><\/p>\n

The red carnation is commonly used as the symbolic flower for National Doctors Day.<\/p>\n

The Doctor’s Day is celebrated on July 1 all across India to honour the legendary physician and the second Chief Minister of West Bengal, Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy. He was born on July 1, 1882 and died on the same date in 1962, aged 80 years. Dr Roy was honoured with the country’s highest civilian award, Bharat Ratna on February 4, 1961.<\/p>\n

Medical Council of India instituted Dr. B.C. Roy Award in 1976 in memory of Bharat Ratna Dr. B. C. Roy. The Award is given annually in each of the following categories: Statesmanship of the Highest Order in India, Medical man-cum-Statesman, Eminent Medical Person, Eminent person in Philosophy and Eminent person in Arts. It is presented by President of India in New Delhi on July 1, the National Doctor’s Day.<\/p>\n

Doctor’s Day is observed in various ways<\/strong> like<\/p>\n

– Patients greet doctor with greeting cards
\n– Patients arrange flowers and bouquets which they deliver either personally or through mails
\n– Special meetings are held to commemorate the day and speak on the contributions of doctors for their performances
\n– Food or commemorative dinners are arranged by organizations or hospitals to felicitate the medical fraternity<\/p>\n

I feel, Central Council of Homeopathy (CCH India) should also institute Dr. B.C. Roy Award for Eminent person in Homeopathy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
